BFL DIVISIONS OF PLAY
BFL will play in the The NJ Suburban Youth Football League (NJSYFL) was founded on December 8th, 1972 in Scotch Plains, NJ. The league was formed in an effort to provide additional opportunities for boys to participate in contact football sport that may have been excluded from other programs due to weight and age restrictions in existing programs.
Since its inception, the program has grown and matured significantly and now affords more than 4500 boys and girls an opportunity to to participate in youth football and cheerleading programs.
The league is currently comprised of 2- town programs split between two conferences. There are playoffs, Super Bowl, and an All-Star game to enhance the enjoyment of the participants and help teach the value of competition and good sportsmanship.
Participating towns include: Berkeley Heights, Somerville/Branchburg, Chatham, New Providence, Westfield, Summit and Milburn, Morristown, Scotch Plains-Fanwood and others.
Flag Division
This division will be for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Graders. At this level there are no league standings because there are no records of wins or losses. We just want the children to learn about the game and have fun. In the summer they will practice 2 days per week and once the season starts they will practice for 1 day per week and have their games on Saturdays AM. Player from Bridgewater Raritan only
3rd/4th Grade
This division will be for 3rd and 4th graders. Offense has a playbook, running a handful of plays and everyone. There are modified rules to ensure safety for the kids and fair play. Practice in the summer will run from Monday thru Thursday and once school starts they will practice 2 days per week. Players from Bridgewater Raritan only
5th/6th/7th and 8th Grade
Each grade will field a team in each grade. Practice in the summer will run from Monday thru Thursday and once school starts they will practice 2-3 days per week. Players from Bridgewater Raritan only.
